Concert for Lexi
By Leane Gagne
The Grand Valley is notorious for supporting local music, so when there is a family in need, the local music scene does what it can to give back.
That Is just what local musician Larren Oliver and others are looking to do by hosting a Benefit Concert. When Larren found out that his longtime friend Casey’s daughter Lexi was diagnosed with a brain tumor, he wanted to lend a helping hand. With his music, he has always tried to use it for ways to help, encourage and provide hope to those who listen.
Lexi currently attends 5th grade at Lincoln Orchard Mesa Elementary School and is a part of the honor society. In her free time, she enjoys playing sports like volleyball and basketball, doing crafts and DIY projects. She just turned 11 years old on December 28th. In September, while doing one of her favorite activities, she started feeling dizzy, this caused her family to question what was going on. She was seen by the Doctor’s at Children’s Hospital in Denver; They discovered a brain tumor and immediately went into surgery. Lexi has gone through many weeks of radiation which has slowed down the growth. As any major life event, this has caused financial difficulties with the family having to take off work as well as the cost of medical and travel expenses. As of right now, the family is waiting to see what is next with potential clinical drug trials that could place the family out of town once every 3 weeks for the next year.
The Concert will be on Jan 12th, 2019 for Lexi and her family at The First Church of the Nazarene located at 2802 Patterson Road, Grand Junction, CO, 81506. The doors will open at 7:00 PM with the first act going on at 7:15 PM. Tickets can only be purchased at the door and are $10.00 for ages 13 and up and $5.00 for 12 and under. Lexi’s family will also have bracelets, hats and shirts for sale. 100% of all proceeds raised will go to help Lexi and her family.
The nights performers will consist of Christine Mendenhall, Gerald Richardson, Roy Catlin, The Dollyz, Morgan Crouse, HopeKings and Shea & Larren.
